Mark your Calendar for CoNEXT 2010

The 6th International Conference on emerging Networking EXperiments and Technologies (CoNEXT) will be held November 30th to December 3rd on the campus of Drexel University in Philadelphia.

CoNEXT 2010 will be a major forum for presentations and discussions of novel networking technologies that will shape the future of Internetworking.
The conference is single track and features a high-quality technical program with significant opportunities for individual and small-group technical and social interactions among a diverse set of participants. The CoNEXT conferences focus on stimulating exchanges between various international research communities.

Student Travel Grants

With support from the U.S. National Science Foundation and SIGCOMM, CoNEXT 2010 will provide a limited number of grants to students to attend the main conference as well as to participate in the ACM CoNEXT 2010 Student Workshop.

Form and Amount of Support

The support is intended to defray, but not necessarily cover entirely, the costs of attending the conference/workshop. Reimbursement amounts will be determined in part by travel costs (consideration will be given for those who have higher travel costs).

The award will be handled via reimbursements. Each legitimate expense must be documented with an original official receipt (e.g., air ticket and hotel receipt). The reimbursement will be sent as a check via postal mail six to eight weeks after submitting the reimbursement forms and supporting receipts. Further details of the reimbursement procedure will be communicated to the award recipients.

Eligibility

There are two categories of student travel grant: NSF, for which a restriction applies as given below, and SIGCOMM, for which no restriction exists on nationality or location of the student’s institution.

To qualify for the NSF Student Travel Grant, the applicant must be a US-based student, that is, a student attending universities in the US (but does not necessarily need to be a US citizen or permanent resident). As per NSF policy, US students will have to fly with a US-based carrier to be eligible for reimbursement.

Special efforts will be made to recruit student participants who are underrepresented in STEM disciplines, and who are coming from diverse institutions.

In making Student Travel Grant decisions, students with accepted posters or presentations at the ACM CoNext 2010 Student Workshop will be given higher priority. However, the Committee strongly prefers students who are not authors of a conference paper or of a ReArch or PRESTO workshop paper (the Committee believes the authors’ home organizations should cover costs for authors).

Application Process and Notification

Requests for travel support should be submitted by e-mail no later than Wednesday, 27th October 2010. E-mails should be addressed to the Travel Grants Chair Tommaso Melodia.

The student should submit the following materials (as PDFs):

1. A resume
2. A cover letter providing:

A short statement (e.g., a couple paragraphs) indicating how the student would benefit from attending ACM CoNEXT 2010.
A brief summary (e.g., a couple paragraphs) of research interests and accomplishments.
An indication of whether the student has submitted an abstract to or has an accepted paper in the ACM CoNEXT 2010 Student Workshop.
Estimated travel costs to the conference.

3. A supporting letter from the advisor stating

that the student is in good academic standing;
why the student is in need of a travel grant;
how Co-NEXT will benefit the student’s research progress.

Call for papers

The 6th ACM International Conference on emerging Networking EXperiments and Technologies (ACM CoNEXT) will be held in Philadelphia. The first goal of this conference is to provide a selective and interdisciplinary forum for research in Networking. The second goal is to foster meaningful technical interaction among members of our community, with a single-track program and opportunities for discussions.

ACM CoNEXT 2010 welcomes submissions based on implementation and experimentation, as well as simulation and analytical approaches. We are committed to a fair, timely, and thorough review process providing authors of submitted papers with sound and detailed feedback. We solicit papers on emerging networking experiments, measurements, paradigms, analysis with particular emphasis on novel and creative work. Papers reporting on the deployment and performance of services, or exploring networks aimed at better supporting new services, are also appreciated.

The City

Philadelphia is the largest city in Pennsylvania and the sixth-most-populous city in the United States. In 2008, the population of the city proper was estimated to be over 1.54 million, while the Greater Philadelphia metropolitan area’s population of 5.8 million made it the country’s fifth-largest. The city, which lies approximately 46 miles southwest of New York City, is the nation’s fourth-largest urban area by population and its fourth-largest consumer media market as ranked by the Nielsen Media Research. It is the county seat of Philadelphia County (with which it is coterminous). Popular nicknames for Philadelphia include Philly and The City of Brotherly Love.

A commercial, educational, and cultural center, the city was once the second-largest in the British Empire (after London), and the social and geographical center of the original 13 American colonies. Ben Franklin took a large role in Philadelphia’s early rise to prominence. It was in this city that many of the ideas, and subsequent actions, gave birth to the American Revolution and American Independence, making Philadelphia a centerpiece of early American history. It was the most populous city of the young United States, although by the first census in 1790, New York City had overtaken it. Philadelphia served as one of the nation’s many capitals during the Revolutionary War and after. Following the ratification of the U.S. Constitution, it was the temporary national capital from 1790 to 1800 while Washington, DC was under construction.

Paper Submission Guidelines

Submissions must be original, unpublished work, and not under consideration at another conference or journal. Compliance with the 12 pages, 10pts ACM SIGCOMM format will be strictly enforced. Electronic proceedings will be published by ACM, and the best papers forwarded to the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking for possible fast-track publication.

To submit papers to the ACM CoNEXT 2010 conference, please read the formatting guidelines provided on this page and make sure that your submission complies with these requirements. Then go to the paper submission site and:

Formatting Guidelines

All submissions must adhere to the format and size constraints indicated below. Your goal as an author is to produce a concise submission within these constraints. Please refrain from exceeding these limits. Longer submissions and/or papers with modified margins or fonts will not be reviewed.

We use an automatic tool to verify that your submitted paper does not violate the following guidelines. This automated DF-checker tool is integrated into our web conference management system. After you upload your paper, you can use it yourself. The tool will tell you whether or not you pass a variety of checks. If you fail the basic tests, please correct your paper and upload a new version. This tool will be used as a guideline to identify non-conforming papers. No paper will be rejected due to format violations without being hand checked first.

Submissions MUST be no more than twelve (12) pages in 10 point Times Roman (or equivalent font). This length includes everything: figures, tables, references, appendices and so forth.
Submissions MUST follow ACM guidelines: double column, with each column 9.25” by 3.33”, 0.33” space between columns.
NOTE: For the submission, you are strongly encouraged to use the modified 10pt ACM SIG-alternate latex template available here.
Provide an abstract of fewer than 200 words.
Number the pages.
On the front page, indicate the authors’ names and affiliation and the paper ID number assigned during the paper registration process and the total number of pages in the submission.
The paper MUST be submitted in PDF format. Other formats (including Postscript) will not be accepted. We must be able to display and print your submission exactly as we receive it, using only standard tools (Adobe Acrobat Reader), with no loading of special fonts.
Make sure that the paper prints well on black and white printers, not color printers. This is especially true for plots and graphs in the paper.
Make sure that the output has been formatted for printing on LETTER (8.5” by 11”) size paper.
Make sure that symbols and labels used in the graphs are readable when printed, and not only with a 20x on-screen magnification.
Try to limit the file size to less than 15 MB.
