Hotel, Travel, and Local Information

Hotel Information

IMC 2004 will be held at the Grande Albergo Capotaormina , a spectacular seaside location in Taormina Siciliy Italy (see photo above left). There are no other hotels within walking distance of this hotel.

Conference attendees should make their own reservations directly with the hotel. IMC 2004 has a guaranteed room rate of 140€ for single occupancy and 190€ for double occupancy including breakfast. A block of rooms is being held at this rate through September 20

The full stay will be debited at the time of reservation. Cancellation policy: refund of 50% before September 20; no refunds after September 20.

Room rates are also published directly by the hotel. You should check the hotel-published rates, as you may be able to get a better deal depending on when you reserve your room. If you reserve at the hotel-published rates, reservations can be made online at the hotel web site.

Reservation can be made by phone FAX, or email. If reserving by FAX or email, please specify:

  • first and last name
  • name of the congress to be attended (IMC 2004)
  • type of room chosen (double or single)
  • room rate (specify whether the hotel-posted www site rate or the IMC-guaranteed rate)
  • date of arrival and of departure
  • credit card number and expiry date
  • an explicit statement to charge room fees: "I authorize Grande Albergo Capotaormina to charge room fees to the credit card above"

  • Internet: Connectivity will be provided outside the meeting room during the workshop. Dial-up is not always easy from italian hotels.

Traveling to/from Taormina

Airport. The nearest airport to Taormina is Fontanarossa Airport in Catania (CTA). Flights are available from Rome, London, Milan, Torino (Turin), Paris and other cities. However, we recommend flying to Milan (MXP) or Rome (FCO) and connecting there to Catania.

From the Catania Airport to the Grande Albergo Capo Taormina. The distance between the airport and the hotel is approximately 55 Km. You can travel by coach, train, rental car or taxi.

  • BUS. Every hour from 6.45 a.m to 7.45 p.m. Cost 5€. For further information, see the Interbus web site. Note that the bus does not stop in front of the hotel. Therefore, your options are to (1) kindly ask the driver to stop you in front of the hotel or (2) take a cab from the Taormina bus terminal to the hotel (15€)
  • TRAIN. The bus to the Catania railway station leaves from the airport departure terminal. From the catania railway station to Taormina, there is a train every 30 minutes from 8 a.m to 9 p.m. (www.trenitalia.it). From Taormina station to the hotel you can easily find a taxi (cost about 15€), or walk.
  • RENTAL CARS. Avis , Hertz , Maggiore, Budget are available at the Catania airport. There is a highway between Catania and Taormina. The toll cost is 2.5€. The ride takes approximately 1 hour. The hotel has parking.
  • TAXI. Taxis to and from the Catania airport can be ordered by phone and fax. The company below has a deal with Hotel Capo Taormina. Rates are 75&euro for a regular taxi (up to 3 people) 100&euro for a mini-van (up to 5 people). Please send a fax or call Supergarage, Taormina, Sig.
