Workshop on Information Centric Networking for 5G (IC5G 2016), Kyoto, Japan - September 26, 2016

In recent years, overwhelming global research attention has been attracted by the development of future 5G networks. It is widely recognised that 5G is not only about new radio/wireless technologies, but also network architecture revolutions accompanied by the design of intelligent network functions and protocols. While multimedia/video content delivery is envisaged to remain the killer application in 5G, emerging Internet of Things (IoT) services will also pose distinct requirements on the development of corresponding technologies. As such, one of the key considerations in the design of 5G networks is supporting increasing variance in network traffic profiles, control and data plane scale, packet size, delay tolerance, and mobility itself. In both content-oriented and machine-oriented application scenarios, Information Centric Networking (ICN) will play an essential enabler role in seamlessly delivering heterogeneous types of data in different applications over the end-to-end 5G network infrastructure.

In this context, the Information Centric Networking for 5G (IC5G) Workshop aims to bring together technical progress and achievements to be disseminated in the research community. The workshop solicits technical papers with the topics including, but not limited to:

  • ICN-enabled 5G Network Architecures
  • ICN enabled mobile video delivery
  • ICN support for 5G use cases (specified by NGMN or others)
  • Cross-layer content/network optimisations based on ICN principles
  • Content caching in 5G networks
  • ICN support for V2X applications in 5G
  • Interworking of ICN with Mobile Edge Computing (MEC), Mobile Edge Cloud and Fog Computing
  • User QoE in ICN-based mobile content applications
  • ICN for delivering radio access convergence
  • ICN for 5G Core Network Services
  • Device-to-device (D2D) level ICN schemes
  • Security Implications of ICN for 5G
  • User/content mobility support in ICN
  • ICN Support for Internet of Things (IoT)/Machine to Machine (M2M)/Machine Type Communications (MTC) in 5G
  • Analytics and machine learning for ICN decision-making in 5G

Paper Submissions

Submitted papers must not substantially overlap papers that have been published or that are simultaneously submitted to a journal, conference, or workshop with proceedings. Regular submissions should be at most 6 pages in the ACM double-column format (templates available here), excluding well-marked appendices. Committee members are not required to read the appendices, and so the paper should be intelligible without them. Submissions should not be anonymized.

You will be requested to upload the file of your paper (in PDF format only). Submissions not meeting these guidelines risk rejection without consideration of their merits. Papers must be received by the deadline of July 20, 2016 to be considered. Notification of acceptance or rejection will be sent to authors by August 15, 2016. The camera ready must be prepared by September 1, 2016 (firm). Proceedings of the workshop will be published by ACM on a CD, available to the workshop attendees. Papers will be included in the ACM Digital Library, with a specific ISBN. Each accepted paper must be presented by an author, who will have to be registered by the early-bird registration deadline.
