Student Poster Session - Work-in-progress

This year, the SIGCOMM 2000 conference will sponsor a poster session aimed at showcasing the "work-in-progess" of students attending the conference.  The goal of the poster session is to present students' work in progress and provide an opportunity for informal discussion of the work with the students within the conference venue.

What is a poster?

The "authors" of each accepted poster will be given an approximately 1 meter x 1.25 meter poster board to which they can affix material describing their work in progress.  An author may choose to print out several 8.5"x11" or A4 sheets of paper (e.g., paper copies of overheads) and "tile" the poster board with these pages.  Alternatively, an author may choose to print a single large (e.g., 1 meter x 1.25 meter) sheet of paper describing the work and attach that to the poster board.

In the end, "authors" should prepare the best material (visually appealing, succinct) that effectively communicates the research in progress.

What, when, and where to submit?

Authors should submit a 500 word text file describing the research to be presented in the poster, as well as a draft of the poster material (whether it be multiple "tiles" or a single sheet of paper), in pdf or postscript format.

  • Send both of the above by July 12, 2000 to sigcomm2000-pcchairs@cs.umass.edu
  • A subset of the PC committee will select approximately 20 of the most interesting posters by July 26, 2000 and will then notify all authors. Details such as exact poster size and setup times will be provided.
  • Posters should be presented by a student.
  • Authors of papers cannot submit a poster with the work they present in the conference.

Posters will be displayed in the area of the coffee break during a one-hour session, Thursday August 31st, 14.30-15.30
