Downtown Restaurant PicksAlthough Pittsburgh's mark on International cuisine is the Primanti's Sandwich (located off of Penn Avenue in the Strip District), we are a city that takes its food quite seriously. There is a wonderful diversity of cuisines and all of it good.
If you want to stay close to the hotel you can eat at either of the Omni William Penn's fine restaurants; the Terrace or the TAP Room. Within a couple of blocks of the hotel, you will also find The Common Plea, Piccolo Piccolo, The Ruddy Duck, the Steelhead Grill, or the Smithfield Café. There are also many fast food restaurants available in the same area.
If you venture into the City, you may want to take a walk down Forbes Avenue to Market Square and try one of the many restaurants there. You can find something for nearly all tastes and budgets. Take the opportunity to take a walk through PPG Plaza and take in the unique and beautiful architecture of PPG Place. If you decide to walk to Market Square and want a truly upscale dining experience, you will want to try Palomino, one of Pittsburgh's premier restaurants.
In town, you can also go to Sixth Street and see one of Pittsburgh's world class concert halls, Heinz Hall, home of the Pittsburgh Symphony. The restaurants here are all quite upscale and the food is excellent. Try Bravo Franco, La Scala, the Lemon Grass Café, or the Southwest Bistro, all of them are excellent.
If you want to take a bit more of a tour of the City, you can either walk or take the "T" (our subway system) to Station Square for $1. Station Square is full of restaurants and shops and offers a breaktaking view of the City.
A map of the City of Pittsburgh is available here, as well as a walking tour map of the Downtown Area's architectural and historical sites.
