Local Guide
Known as the Mile High City, Denver sits at an elevation of 5,280 feet (1609 m) and offers a vibrant mix of urban culture, outdoor recreation, and easy access to the Rocky Mountains. Whether you have a free afternoon or are extending your stay, there is plenty to explore.
August is typically warm, sunny, and dry in Denver. During the conference, daytime high temperatures are typically 85–90°F (29–32°C), while evenings cool to around 55–60°F (13–16°C). Afternoon thunderstorms are possible, especially later in the day, but they are usually brief. Denver's low humidity and cool evenings mean that temperatures can change noticeably between day and night. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a reusable water bottle are also good companions for spending time outdoors.
Denver's high elevation may affect visitors who are not accustomed to it. To help you enjoy your stay:
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
- Limit alcohol consumption until you've acclimated.
- Take it easy during your first day if you plan strenuous activities.
- Use sunscreen and sunglasses — the sun is noticeably stronger at altitude.
Most visitors adjust quickly, but mild fatigue or shortness of breath during the first day is not uncommon.
If you have some free time during your visit, here are a few popular attractions:
