Wikipedia has an introduction about University of California, Irvine (UCI). UCI is a public research university, one of ten UC campuses. It was established in 1965. UC Irvine is named after the Irvine Company, which sold 1,000 acres of land to University of California at one dollar in 1960 and another 500 acres in 1964.

UCI is under constant growth. In the local lingo, UCI also stands for Under-Construction-Indefinitely. In 2007, U.S. News & World Report survey ranked UCI as 4th among public universities in California, 12th among all public universities in the U.S., and 44th among all universities in the U.S. The graduate Computer Science program is ranked 29th.
