Reception at Birch Aquarium

The Birch Aquarium at Scripps is situated on a hilltop site that provides a spectacular view on the Scripps Institution of Oceanography campus, northern La Jolla, and the Pacific Ocean. It consists of three main areas: (1) the Hall of Fishes with 33 tanks, the largest holding 70,000 gallons, (2) the Hall of Oceanography, the largest display on oceanographic sciences in the country, and (3) an outdoor plaza with a demonstration tide pool and discovery station. Paths lead to the beach below and back to the UCSD campus.

Conference attendees will have full access to the aquarium exhibits during the reception. Buses will run from the conference hotels and the Mandeville auditorium (registration) to the Birch Aquarium and back again. Included in registration fee for attendees and their guests. No reservations necessary.

Student Dinner at Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery

TUESDAY, AUG 28 20:00-22:00

The student dinner is at the Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery. Rock Bottom is across the street from the Radisson Hotel, and within walking distance from the Hyatt Hotel. Student attendees should take the buses from the reception at the Birch Aquarium to the Radisson and walk to Rock Bottom. We thank PMC-Sierra for sponsoring the student dinner.

The Hotel Del Coronado is situated on picturesque Coronado Island. Over 112 years old, it is a National Historic Landmark renowned for its magnificent architecture and legendary guests; it is perhaps best known as the location for the 1958 film "Some Like It Hot" starring Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon, and Tony Curtis. The SIGCOMM 2001 Banquet will be held in the Main Ballroom. Buses will run from Mandeville auditorium to the Hotel Del Coronado before the banquet, and then back to the conference hotels at the end. Included in the registration fee for attendees. There will be a $75 charge for each guest.
