Assessing the Internet: Lessons Learned, Strategies for
Evolution, and Future Possibilities
Cerf and Kahn are two key pioneers of "internet"-working (dating back to 1973), and ACM is particularly pleased to invite "all users of the Internet" to attend this year's ACM Turing Lecture via any of the following ways:
- Reserve online one of 600 tickets for the general public, and pick it up by 5p.m. at the Irvine Auditorium
- Watch the webcast of the Turing Lecture (live or archived)
- Register for the SIGCOMM 2005 conference and get automatic entry to the lecture
- If you are nearby the Turing Lecture location, pick up one of the remaining tickets starting at 5p.m.
ACM SIGCOMM is honored that ACM 2004 Turing Award winners Vinton G. Cerf and Robert E. Kahn have chosen to give their Turing Lecture Monday Aug. 22nd, the first day of the SIGCOMM 2005 Data Communications Conference. Their lecture will be presented in the historic yet state-of-the-art Irvine Auditorium on the Penn Campus. SIGCOMM will host a celebratory reception in the Irvine Auditorium for all lecture attendees. The lecture will also be streamed live on the Internet. ACM and SIGCOMM graciously acknowledge the support of The University of Pennsylvania's School of Engingeering and Applied Science.

General public attendees
ACM is providing an online ticket reservation service to reserve a ticket to attend the lecture and the reception. Please pick up your ticket on Aug 22nd between 4:15 and 5:00p.m. at the entrance to the Irvine Auditorium. After 5:00 the tickets will be handed out to anyone waiting in line. Once you get a ticket to the lecture, please join the reception for all lecture attendees, hosted by ACM SIGCOMM. (Note: these directions do not apply to SIGCOMM 2005 attendees and their guests.)

Parking Hint: The closest visitor Parking Garage is 1.5 blocks away from Irvine Auditiorium (34th and Spruce) and is Garage #7 (South St. and Convention Ave across from the Franklin Field stadium), a parking map is available here. The fee is $11; note, there are no garages with parking discounts for attending an Irvine event. Some parking meters may be available. (Garage #37 at 34th Street between Ludlow and Chestnut is another option.)
Subway Hint: If you are traveling on the SEPTA Blue Line (Market Frankford Line), then exit the Market Street Subway Station. Walk south on 34th Street (you should pass Ludlow St, Chestnut St, Walnut St.) and then arrive at the Irvine Auditorium at the corner of Spruce and 34th Street, where you can pick up your "ticket" at the registration desk. (SIGCOMM attendees should bypass the registration desk and use their badge or conference receipt to enter.)
SIGCOMM attendees
Please reserve a seat as you register for the ACM SIGCOMM 2005 conference; your badge will be your ticket to the event. (You may reserve a seat for your guest at the same time.) The lecture will be presented in the historic yet state-of-the-art Irvine Auditorium on the Penn Campus, a 30-45 minute combined walk/subway ride from the SIGCOMM 2005 venue. Be sure to pick up your registration package at the SIGCOMM 2005 hotel by 4:30pm, then follow the directions included in your packet. SIGCOMM attendees should plan to register before 4:30pm if they are to leave for the lecture by 4:30pm. In case you are not able to stop by the registration desk before the lecture, the letter or email confirming your registration to SIGCOMM can also serve as your ticket to the event. SIGCOMM 2005 will host a celebratory reception in the Irvine Auditorium for all lecture attendees.
