The city of Nice offers a convenient bike rental service with more than a hundred stations. The official web site is available at velobleu.org. It is unfortunately in French only, but information in English can be found in blog articles Bike rental in nice: The Velo Bleu and Using Velo Blue just gor easier: Rental Bikes.
The following map and the short descriptions should give you some first hints on where to go and what to do:
Within walking distance from the conference location:
Promenade des Anglais. Enjoy a one to two hours walk on this long
pedestrian avenue that closely follows the large curve of the baie des
Anges, next to the beaches. You will see the famous Nègresco and Palais de
la Méditerrannée.
Old historical city. The conference location is next to the old
city of Nice. Starting from the “cours Saleya”, you can randomly walk
through the web of narrow but full of life pedestrian streets and complete
your journey by climbing up to the “Chateau” where you can enjoy a nice
view on Nice and the baie des Anges.
Modern art museum. Open every day from 10am to 6pm, except on Tuesday. Masterworks from the 60s till nowadays in a beautiful building.
A bit further away but still in Nice:
The Russian Cathedral (St Nicolas). Build in 1912, the largest orthodox church outside Russia.
Cimiez. Matisse Museum and the ruins of Cemenelum (include an
arena, amphitheatre, thermal baths, etc. ).
Asiatic Art Museum. Enjoy the art collections from India, Cambogia, China, Japan in this building in Phoenix park.
